Many don’t even remember the old Disco Volante( flying saucer), but original masterpiece was able to achieve 220 km/h thanks to its chassis made in shape of “space frame”, which made the car stiff and lightweight. With lightweight chassis and 2 liter engine which developed around 160 HP, acceleration was amazing; don’t forget that all of this happened in 1952. In accordance with atypical exterior design, light weight, stiff chassis and powerful engine for the time, this Alfa gained a cult following among Alfa Romeo enthusiasts, however it looks like it gained massive popularity in automotive world since itself only two existent models cost 2 million Euros a piece.

Sixty years later, few designers from Touring Superleggera decided to revive Disco Volante as one of the best concepts ever.

After first few drawings, team from Alfa Romeo joined in, and in cooperation with Touring Superleggera created a beautiful concept which they presented in Geneva couple of years ago.

When this concept was presented, no one believed that this car may get green light for production, but recently we got information that this has happened, believe it or not.

As it happens with these types of cars, Disco Volante is going to be produced in ultra limited edition, but we still don’t know the exact number. One thing is clear, this car is hand made from Alfa 8C parts and it’s going to take around 4000 man-hours to complete. Yes you read right, 4000.

Engine and complete mechanization is going to be donated by already mentions model of Alfa, which means that it’s going to be powered by 4.7 liter v8 engine that develops 450HP. Performances might be slight better because of ultra low aerodynamic resistance. So, it’s basically going to be another 8C in different shape and form. Price is still secret of course, but they’re probably going to define price according to demand.
